Council issues Halloween warning

DUBLIN City Council is warning local people to report stockpiled material for bonfires in the run up to Halloween.

The council said it will be carrying out dozens of
stockpiling raids over the next fortnight as part of its drive to promote a safe Halloween that all the community can enjoy.

This includes family-friendly Halloween events around the city, licensed fireworks displays and Dublin Fire Brigade’s safety awareness campaign.

The council will use #dubsafehalloween to promote this on social media and is encouraging the public to use this hashtag when posting their own safe Halloween content.

Hugh Coughlan, from Dublin City Council’s Waste Management Services section, told Northside People:

“Offering a safe environment for people to celebrate and stopping illegal bonfires has played a big part in reducing the damage Halloween has traditionally caused.

“However, we need the public’s support in this and that’s why we are asking people to report stockpiled material to us. Mr Coghlan added:

“Remember, all bonfires are illegal and, as well as being a safety risk, cause considerable damage to the environment.

Dublin City Council removed approximately 1,000 tyres and 800 tonnes of bonfire material last year.
