Plans for Southside school campus get green light despite some local opposition

Dublin City Council has given the green light to a two school campus in South Dublin despite objections from some of the local community.

The council have given the Department of Education planning permission for a two storey primary Educate Together school and a three-storey post-primary Educate Together school on the Rosyln Park College campus in Sandymount.

At present the Educate Together secondary school uses a network of prefabricated buildings to host a temporary 12 class room school where 324 students are accommodated.

Folllowing the first lodging of plans in November, Dublin City Council received 59 objections.

The Sandymount and Merrion Residents Association say they are against the plans because the new buildings are not necessary and aren’t in keeping with the surrounding local area.

Educate Together secondary school moved into its new premises at the Roslyn Park Centre on Sandymount Road in September 2018 on the site of the Gandon Villa, a stately house built in 1790 by the architect responsible for the Four Courts.

In it’s first year the school had an intake of 31 first-year students.
