Essential works on Drumcondra Road to safeguard water supply

Irish Water working in partnership with Dublin City Council is carrying out a series of essential works on the North City Arterial watermain.

In a statement, Irish water said:

“The works involve the installation of a number of new valves and flow meters that will improve our control of the network to manage pressure and will help to identify leaks on the network so that they can be prioritised for repair.

“The first phase of works will start on the watermain in Drumcondra from 9am on Saturday 16 October until 11pm and will continue on Sunday 17 October from 9am until 11pm, and on Monday 18 October from 8am until 4pm.

“In order to safely facilitate these works a traffic management plan will be in place.

“Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

“Irish Water and Dublin City Council will endeavour to maintain normal supply to as many customers as possible and treated drinking water reservoirs will be filled to their maximum in advance of the works starting.

“Whilst every effort has been made to minimise the impact of these works, some customers in the following locations may be impacted by low water pressure and outages while the works are underway; Croydon Terrace; Philipsburg Avenue; All Hallows; Bishops Palace; Grace Park Road; Rathlin; Homefarm Road and surrounding areas.

“Following the completion of the works it may take a number of hours for normal water supply to return to all impacted properties.”

Speaking about the works, Matthew Thomson, Irish Water said: “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Dublin City Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause.

“The delivery of this work is essential and will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in the city ensuring a safer more sustainable water supply into the future.”
