Water main bursts in North Dublin; customers affected

Dublin People 12 Dec 2023

Uisce Éireann is working with Fingal County Council to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers in North County Dublin following a large burst to a high-pressure water main.

Expert water services crews have been dispatched to find and fix the burst and every effort is being made to reduce the impact on homes and businesses and restore water supply as quickly as possible.

Repairs are complex due to the location of the pipe and the presence of other underground services, however, crews have reconfigured the water network where possible to lessen the impact and maintain supply to as many customers as possible. As a result, some customers in the following areas may be impacted by disruptions to their water supply: Baskin Lane, Pinnock Hill, Coachmans, Stockhole Lane, Kinsealy, Santry, and surrounding areas in North County Dublin.

The works are estimated to be completed later tonight, however, it may take a number of hours following repairs for normal water supply to return to all customers due to the size of the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes.

Tselo Tlou, Uisce Éireann, commented “the repairs are being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible to minimise disruption and restore the water supply to homes and businesses. We are appealing to customers to continue to conserve water where possible to help maintain reservoir levels. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.

Tselo acknowledges the inconvenience to impacted customers. adding “we understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can have on our customers and appreciate your patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible.”
