A GROUP of Northsiders will be aiming to give cancer the boot when they take part in a charity football tournament dedicated to their late friend.

‘Play for Paddy’ was set up in 2014 in memory of Shamrock Rovers fan Paddy Delahunty, from Artane, who died from cancer aged just 31.

Exceeding charity donation targets for year one,

‘Play for Paddy’ is back and set to become an annual fundraising family event.

The second annual tournament will take place on Saturday, July 4 at Dublin Indoor Football, Santry.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society and St Francis Hospice Raheny.

Speaking at the launch, event organiser Ã?amon Moore said:

“We created

‘Play for Paddy’ as we felt it was an ideal opportunity to start an event in memory of a great person who touched so many lives, even after his death.

“It is not only important for us to remember our friend Paddy but we want to create awareness amongst our friends, family and broader spectrum to the great work of the two charities whom were extremely beneficial to Paddy and his family – Irish Cancer Society and St Francis Hospice.

Play for Paddy has teamed up with a host of great sponsors to ensure the day is a fun-filled family event not to be missed.

FM104 and Shamrock Rovers mascot, Hooperman, will be cheering on the footballers while entertainers will be on hand for a jam-packed afternoon of fun for the kids.
