The Ballymun Workin’ Class Records crew are helping spread peace and positivity throughout Dublin.

A NORTHSIDE comedian is taking part in a new campaign that helps celebrate local heroes bringing peace to Ireland and the UK.

Dean Scurry from Ballymun is well known throughout Dublin as a stand-up funny-man but he’s also made his mark as a local youth worker, a community activist and as founder of independent hip hop label Workin’ Class Records.

Dean set up the label at a studio in Ballymun to help local youngsters discover a creative outlet through music.

“Music is a great way to support and build confidence in young people,

? he says.

“Workin’ Class Records supports hip-hop artists to develop a sense of professional focus and determination. Through music they can gain a strong foundation to make a career for themselves.

Dean is now helping promote an Instagram competition organised by Lynx that aims to inspire the nation to celebrate tranquillity and local people striving to bring calm to their community.

Lynx is using the popular photo sharing app to drive home its

‘Make Love Not War’ campaign message through the

‘Make Moments’ competition that asks the nation to capture what peace means to them in their local community.

Award winning British photographer, Matthew Lloyd, was commissioned to scour Ireland and the UK for local heroes who are bringing peace to their communities.

And after meeting Dean, he decided he was an ideal representative for Dublin.

The Lynx Make Love Not War campaign encourages everybody to embrace peace in every aspect of their lives. Using the iconic phrase as inspiration, the campaign centres around three key passion points: Make Beats Not War, Make Threads Not War and Make Moments Not War.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness for the Peace One Day project.

Photographer Matthew Lloyd said he was delighted to be part of

“such a powerful campaign

?.

“Not only are we raising awareness for Peace One Day but we are also championing heroes who are doing good for their community via this collection of images,

? he added.

“With apps like Instagram, everyone can explore a budding passion for photography and spread visual positivity to friends and family.

The Make Moments competition encourages locals to take their own images of peace in their area using Instagram and uploading them with the hashtag #LynxPeace.

The best photos will be in with a chance of being held up as part of a British & Irish vision of peace. Winning images will be displayed alongside Matthew’s collection of peace photography at an exhibition in London later this summer.
