A NORTHSIDE barber proved he was a cut above the rest
when he scooped a national award for his profession.

Mark Heatley from Mark’s Barbers, Artane, was named
Irish Barber of the Year 2012 at the prestigious Irish Hairdressing
Championships.

Organised by the Irish Hairdressers Federation, the
championships are the definitive awards for the Irish hairdressing industry.

A total of 300 hairdressers from around Ireland
battled it out by creating more than 500 different looks for the coveted
awards.

Mark is originally from Artane and has had his
barbers’ shop for 14 years. This was the first time he won the national title.

Other hairdressers from Mark’s Barbers have won a
number of awards including finishing second place in the All-Ireland
Championships in Northern Ireland in 2008 and being part of the Irish Barbering
team that competed in the Paris open cup in 2009.

Since the Irish Hairdressers’ Federation began the
competition almost 40 years ago in 1974 some of the finest hairdressers in
Ireland have participated. Many winners have going on to prove themselves at
international level including the 2011 Irish Champions’ Raimondas Pasternackis,
who won the World Best Men’s Stylist of the Year Award 2011, and Louise Jordan
who has won 11 European and World medals.

Greg Clarke, President of the Irish Hairdressers’
Federation, said:

“The championships are an opportunity for our top
professionals to show off their ability, originality and flair and be
recognised alongside some of Ireland’s most talented industry names.

“Many congratulations to Mark who demonstrated the
incredible talent that makes Irish hairdressing so strong.
