STUDENTS at a Northside school are celebrating after
receiving an award for excellence in global awareness.

The fourth and fifth class students at Our Lady
Immaculate Senior School in Darndale, along with their teacher Liam Quirke,
became one of the few groups in Ireland to receive the Our World Irish Aid
Award.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade awarded
the prize to the students who worked on the project over three weeks.

The project asked Irish children to discuss and learn
how those in poorer countries live.

A project book was compiled and filled with the
children’s work including drawings, pottery, embroidery and text.

The children spent time every day for three weeks on
the project. They also created a blanket with their embroidery.

All of the children really enjoyed the project even
though there was a lot of work needed and they are all more aware of the lives
of people who are less fortunate.

Artane Whitehall ward councillor Larry O’Toole (SF)
commended all the work done by the children, their parents and the teachers at
the unveiling of the award.
