ACCESS to Skerries train station will be greatly
improved following the opening of the new Ballast Pit Walkway and Cycleway in
the seaside town.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Gerry McGuire, officially opened
the new floodlit walk and cycleway last week.

Thousands of commuters and local walkers have
traditionally used this access route to and from the station and have long
campaigned along with local politicians and community groups for a proper
facility to be provided.

Floodlit

Most importantly, the new walkway is floodlit and is
also fully accessible to all pedestrians regardless of age or mobility, as well
as families with buggies and prams, cyclists and wheelchair users.

120 metres

The Ballast Pit Walkway stretches 120 metres across
the Ballast Pit, is over six metres high at its highest point and four metres
in width.
