Flood information response issued by council

DUBLIN City Council has responded to a request from a
Northside TD for a report on gully cleansing following the recent flooding.

As well as asking the council to report on its
performance during the emergency, Deputy Tommy Broughan (Lab) also sought
information on the longstanding problems during rainfall with a number of
Northside rivers including the Kilbarrack Stream.

“During the recent extreme rain, flooding in a number
of Dublin North East estates appeared to be exacerbated by blocked gullies,

said Deputy Broughan.

A spokesman for the council said difficulties arise in
autumn once leaves fall and accumulate within a relatively short period and can
then block gullies in heavy rain.

“The city council’s waste management services division
plays a major role in the removal of these leaves from the roads and
footpaths,

? he explained.

A report on the flooding event was presented to the
monthly Dublin City Council meeting on November 7.

That meeting will be followed up by a more detailed
report to the Environment and Engineering Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) on
December 15, following which the report will be circulated to Deputy Broughan
and other TDs.

“The Northside rivers will be discussed in that
report,

? the spokesman added.
