It all comes out in the wash for Andrew
Dublin People 10 Oct 2011
LAST
month Ryan Tubridy spoke to a Northside boy on his 2FM show about his
appearance in the O2 Rugby World Cup ad currently being broadcast on RTE.
As part of the ad,
Andrew Synnott (10) played rugby for a day with Ireland stars Johnny Sexton,
Paul O’Connell and Brian O’Driscoll. His big moment is when he is picking his
team on the ad and he says:
‘I pick Johnny!’
During the interview
with Tubridy, Andrew told Ryan how he had got his Ireland rugby shirt signed by
all three players on the day.
However, disaster struck
when he left the jersey on his bedroom floor one day and his mother Aishling,
put it in the wash with the rest of his clothes.
As the autographs were
not signed in indelible ink, they were washed out completely, much to Andrew’s
horror.
Luckily, O2 and the
Irish Rugby World Cup squad heard about the washing machine drama and sent Ryan
a brand new jersey, this time signed by all the squad.
Rugby pundit Brent Pope,
acting as reporter for the Tubridy show, visited Belgrove Senior Boys’ National
School in Clontarf to make the presentation of the newly signed jersey to
Andrew.
Brent presented the
jersey to the delighted youngster in the headmaster’s office.
Andrew said the jersey
will go straight into a frame this time and his mother will not get her hands on
this one!
Irish captain Brian
O’Driscoll and Prop Cian Healy both went to Belgrove National School in their
very early years.
