Dublin Home Care strikes stood down following WRC engagement

SIPTU representatives have confirmed today that planned strike action for this week by members of Blanchardstown & Inner-City Home Care has been stood down, following confirmation that management is willing to engage at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on the ongoing dispute.

The 72-hour work stoppage scheduled for this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday has been put on hold.

The decision follows three days of strike action by members, arising from a management failure to address a longstanding union pay claim adequately.

Last week, SIPTU called on the Minister of Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, to intervene to address the critical funding challenges facing home care providers.

SIPTU Organiser Michelle Waller said: “While the decision to engage in industrial action was not taken lightly, it reflected the frustration of our members at the lack of progress on their pay claim.

The action demonstrated their unity and determination to secure fair treatment.

“We now welcome confirmation that management is willing to attend the WRC.

“While this process may be challenging, SIPTU is hopeful that meaningful engagement at the WRC will lead to a fair and sustainable resolution for our members.”

SIPTU has confirmed its intention to participate constructively in the conciliation process and is urging management to engage in good faith to resolve the dispute.
