The landmark Mayes Pub on the corner of North Frederick Street and Dorset could soon be turned into a convenience store after permission was filed with Dublin City Council to change the use of the building.

Known for donning a large clock and “Mayes Time” sign on its exterior, the famous pub permanently closed its doors around six months ago.

The developer and proposed leaseholder Raltaf Limited, plans on turning the bar into a Centra, according to the application lodged with Dublin City Council.

The proposed development would see a “change of use from existing pub to new retail convenience store to include a new off licence and deli area for the sale of hot food and intoxicating liquor for consumption off the premises.”

According to the drawings submitted with the application, the exterior of the pub would largely remain unchanged apart from the inclusion of Centra decal and colours.

The large clock also appears be retained.

The owner of the pub, Tom Maye, has approved of the transfer submitting a letter of consent to DCC as part of the application.

“I hereby consent to Raltaf Ltd. and their agents Loscher Moran Design Practice who are acting on their behalf, to apply for planning permission for a change of use application from an existing pub to a new retail convenience store located at the aforementioned address,” the letter says.
