Man arrested in Tallaght in connection to money mule investigation

Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with a money mule recruitment investigation in Tallaght this morning.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “As part of an ongoing investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) into the recruitment and organisation of money mules, a search was conducted in the Tallaght area on the morning of Thursday, 29th April, 2021.

“During the course of this search, a 26 year old man was arrested for an offence pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006.

“This man is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

“This search and arrest was undertaken as part of an ongoing GNECB strategy to identify and target those involved in the recruitment and organisation of money mules for Criminal Organisations involved in cyber enabled crimes such as invoice re-direct, smishing/vishing/phishing, account takeover and money laundering,” according to the Gardaí.
