This Sunday’s FAI Cup final between Bohemians and St Patrick’s Athletic has sold over 40,000 tickets, with the game now hotly-tipped to break the record for the FAI Cup.

The cup showdown between the Dublin sides is on track to break the record for the highest attendance at an FAI Cup game, which has stood since 1945.

On that occasion, Shamrock Rovers saw off Bohemians to secure the FAI Cup for 1945, with 41,238 in attendance at Dalymount Park.

Sunday’s match is on course to break that record, with ticket sales already surpassing the record set in 2021 when 37,126 fans saw Bohemians and St Patrick’s Athletic face off.

The Aviva has hosted every FAI Cup final since 2010, and this year’s attendance is already well up on last year’s fixture when 32,412 attended the final between Derry City and Shelbourne.

When Bohemians last won the FAI Cup in 2008, 10,281 were in attendance at the RDS.

For those who can’t make it to the match, the game will be shown on RTÉ 2, with kick-off at 3pm.

The FAI Cup final is being played in the backdrop of a strong season for St. Patrick’s Athletic, who finished in third place in the league, and a mixed season for Bohs who fell away after a strong start to the campaign and finished in 6th.

The recent news of Bohs’ stadium getting a revamp has been greeted with excitement among fans, with consistently high attendances – the 2nd highest in the league behind league champions Shamrock Rovers – leading to a sense of excitement around the club not seen in years.

The Aviva stadium will also host this year’s Europa League Final, so for those unable to take in a cup final day at the Aviva, football fans won’t have long to wait until action returns to the Dublin 4 stadium.

The Aviva was recently named as one of the host stadiums for Euro 2028, which will see Ireland co-host the tournament alongside the UK.
