Padraig Conlon 02 Jul 2026
The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Francis Timmons, was in Saggart yesterday to officially open Swiftbanks, a new large-scale housing development delivering 264 high-quality homes in South Dublin.
A partnership between Tuath Housing, South Dublin County Council and Cairn Homes, Swiftbanks includes 143 Social homes and 95 Cost Rental homes provided by Tuath, funded through the Department of Housing’s Capital Advance Leasing Facility and Cost Rental Equity Loan funding, with private finance provided by the Housing Finance Agency.
In addition to Tuath’s homes, the wider Swiftbanks development also includes a crèche, and 26 affordable purchase homes made available through South Dublin County Council’s Affordable Dwelling Purchase Scheme, supporting first-time buyers to access home ownership.
Demand for cost rental homes at Swiftbanks has been particularly strong, with over 1,600 applications received for the 95 homes available, highlighting the continued need for secure, affordable rental options for middle-income households in the area.
Yesterday’s opening further strengthens Tuath’s long-standing partnership with South Dublin County Council, which began in 2009. Tuath now manages over 2,300 homes across the county, playing a key role in the delivery of social and cost rental housing at scale.

Speaking at the opening, Mayor Timmons noted: “I am delighted to see the delivery of a truly mixed-tenure community here at Swiftbanks, with social, cost rental, affordable purchase and private homes all coming together in one well-planned development. This is exactly the kind of balanced, sustainable approach we need to support growing communities across South Dublin. I would like to acknowledge the strong partnership between South Dublin County Council and Tuath Housing in making this development a reality, providing high-quality homes and new opportunities for so many people and families in the area.”
Chief Financial Officer at Cairn, Richard Ball said: “Swiftbanks is a strong example of what can be achieved when delivery partners and local authorities are aligned in their ambition to create high?quality, well?connected, mixed-tenure communities. At Cairn, we’re proud to have worked closely with Tuath and South Dublin County Council to deliver these homes that will make a meaningful difference – providing not just housing, but stability, opportunity and a real sense of place for residents.”
Located on the Mill Road in Saggart, close to local amenities and transport links, Swiftbanks has been designed as a sustainable and vibrant community. The development includes landscaped green spaces, a children’s playground, secure bike storage and public EV charging facilities
New resident Lisa Redmond, spoke about the impact of moving into her new home: “I’m so emotional today. To receive the keys to our forever home has been life-changing. It’s a beautiful new community and we can’t wait to start a new chapter here”
Angela Murphy, Vice Chair of Tuath Housing, said:
“Swiftbanks is another significant delivery for Tuath and for South Dublin, providing 238 high-quality social and Cost Rental homes. Cost Rental is becoming an increasingly important part of Ireland’s housing system, offering secure, long-term and more affordable options for people struggling in the private rental market. Tuath is committed to continuing to expand this model alongside social housing delivery, helping to build strong, balanced communities for the future.”
