English language teachers sought for Ukrainian community in Dublin

Dublin People 19 Aug 2024

The Irish Red Cross is appealing for volunteers to teach English to Ukrainians in Dublin.

The volunteers would be working with Ukrainians between 18 and 42 years of age and classes would be held in the Ukraine Community Centre in Rathmines.

Over 1,100 Ukrainian refugees use the unique community centre every month for social and cultural events, English language classes and even Irish dancing classes since the Ukraine crisis commenced in February 2022.

The Ukraine Centre which is run by the Irish Red Cross in Rathmines is flexible as to when classes can be held depending on the availability of volunteers willing to assist at beginner and intermediate levels twice a week with up to 10 people in each class.

David Kenealy of the Irish Red Cross said “The primary reason Ukrainians in Ireland need to and want to improve their English is so they can integrate better into the workforce and also find employment. They are also keen to integrate more into the communities they live in especially when they go shopping and filling out online forms as part of every day life.”
