Social Democrats Councillor Justin Sinnott has raised concerns about the number of stickers and graffiti across Dublin.

A motion was passed at a recent Committee meeting that granted Dublin Bus the power to remove offending articles from their bus stops, but Sinnott said that the problem needed to be tackled at a Council level.

Discussing the issue at the most recent meeting of South Dublin County Council, Sinnott said that he passed by 40 stickers on one road alone while travelling to the meeting, and he fears that the issue is slipping away from the grasp of the Council.

“We are seeing it across lamp posts, street signs, road signs, just this proliferation of stickers and graffiti, and I wonder if we need a new approach to tackle the issue.”

“We’re at the stage that this is happening so much of this happening that a new approach is needed.”

Acknowledging the work carried out by Council workers, he said that a more proactive approach is required.“If we let it go, the issue will become worse.”

Colm Ward, chief executive of Soith Dublin County Councul said “I’ll speak to the litter warden, and we’ll see if the team needs a different approach, we have the resources to tackle it.”
