Cllr. John Kennedy (Fine Gael, Stillorgan Ward) proposed at last night’s Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council meeting that a council reception should be arranged to acknowledge the success of Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club, in both football and hurling, over the past two seasons.

An Cathaoirleach Cllr. Mary Hanafin indicated in response that she intends to host such a reception following contributions made by a number of other councillors speaking in favour of the proposal.

Cllr Kennedy said:

“Kilmacud Crokes have had a remarkable couple of seasons, featuring recent All-Ireland success in football (following on from another All-Ireland final appearance last year), along with a “double-double’ success in winning the Dublin championship in both hurling and football two seasons in a row.

“A County Hall reception was previously held to mark the success of Cuala in winning the All-Ireland hurling championship in 2017 and 2018 and so I indicated it would be appropriate for the council to arrange to hold a similar reception soon for Kilmacud Crokes.

“Beyond senior success on the field, the club provide a great outlet for participation at junior and underage levels in Stillorgan and surrounding areas and the contribution of players, coaches and volunteers building up the current strength of the club to its current point over many years should be rightfully acknowledged by the council in a County Hall reception that I expect should be arranged in the coming months.”
