Clondalkin Helping Homeless issues call for more volunteers

Clondalkin Helping Homeless has issued a call for more volunteers to help out with its food collection service.

Independent councillor Francis Timmons says the charity supports homeless people and those sleeping rough in the south Dublin area.

‘’Clondalkin Helping Homeless has been assisting those in need since 2014,” he says.

“We have three core services: a weekly foodbank, a FoodCloud, and  hand out tents and sleeping bags and supplies to those who need them.

“The FoodCloud we get is mainly through Tesco’s in Clondalkin and Liffey Valley and according to the app we have collected more than 30381 kg of food which is the equivalent of 72882 meals and a CO2 saving of 97530 kg.

“While the figures are impressive the best thing is the food goes to help families who are struggling with cost of living.

“This food would of ended up in land fill but is going to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society,” he says.

“If you’re reading this and wondering how you can help, the most practical way is to do a food collection.

“We are always in need of food – tinned food, cereals, pasta, rice, coffee, tea and sugar are the most common items we need, you could also encourage your local school or a group you may know to do a food collection , we are always grateful for food.”
