The popular illuminated forest walks at Marlay Park and Cabinteely Park will now remain open until January 27th and are open Monday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has announced.

The family friendly walks are fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies and are an “oasis of calm beneath the twinkling lights,” a spokesperson said.

“Walkers can also rest assured that the illuminated walks are environmentally friendly and kind to our planet,” the council said.

“The main parts of the twinkling walking trails in Marlay Park and Cabinteely Park are powered by electrical generators as a mains electrical supply is unavailable.

“These generators are fuelled by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) Renewable Diesel.

“HVO Renewable Diesel is a premium fossil free diesel product made from 100% renewable raw materials, which does not release any new carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

“It is produced by hydrotreatment of vegetable oils and/or animal fats.

“The fuel has been proven to reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% when compared with fossil diesel in the same applications.”

The walking trails in Marlay Park and Cabinteely Park are free to attend and fully accessible.
