70,000 south Dublin homes and businesses to benefit from €50m broadband investment

Over 70,000 homes and businesses across Dún Laoghaire Rathdown as well as South Dublin will benefit from a €50 million investment in fibre broadband by SIRO, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said that “this was first raised with me in early 2020 and very quickly became the single biggest issue for many households given the sudden reliance on being able to work effectively from home given the pandemic.

“It is something I have raised continually with commercial providers, with the Minister for Communication and indeed when National Broadband Ireland came before the Public Accounts Committee in February of this year.

“I have engaged with SIRO for the last number of months to impress upon them specific areas throughout my constituency, particularly Foxrock and Cabinteely, that need to be included in this rollout.

“Today’s announcement is good news for the area, for businesses and homes, as well as for the 250 jobs it will create in the rollout process over the next two years.

“Targeted areas include Dún Laoghaire town, Foxrock, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Cabinteely, Deansgrange, Carrickmines, Killiney and Shankill.

“I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this investment over the coming two years,” Deputy Carroll MacNeill said.
