Sewer network in Cabinteely set for upgrade

Irish Water, working in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, say they are progressing a project to upgrade and improve the sewer network in Cabinteely.

They also say that delivery of this important wastewater project will support future development and economic growth and will significantly improve the capacity and operational performance of the existing sewers for local residents.

It will also safeguard the environment by reducing the risk of sewer overflows into Deansgrange Stream..

The project involves the construction of approximately 55 meters of new gravity sewers across the Johnstown Road in Cabinteely to connect into the existing sewer network in Clonkeen Park.

To minimise disruption to the local community and commuters, a phased approach will be taken with areas of work limited to short sections.

Partial closure of areas within Clonkeen Park will be required with localised diversions in place for footpath / cycle lane users accessing Longmeadow Grove. To ensure the safety of crews and the public, a stop/go traffic light system will be in place on Johnstown Rd, during the first week of November.

Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times for the duration of works.

Commenting on the project, Padraig Hanly (pictured above), Irish Water said, “Working with our colleagues in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, we are delighted to announce that we are all set to break ground on this vital project for Cabinteely.

“A sewer network that is fit for purpose is essential in order to support business and social development in the community. These works will support existing and future residential and commercial development while also improving the overall performance of the sewer network and will safeguard the local environment by reducing the risk of sewer flooding.

“We understand that the works may cause some inconvenience to commuters and our crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption and complete the project as quickly as possible. On behalf of Irish Water, I would like to thank local residents, businesses and commuters in advance for their support and co-operation.”

The project, which is due to be completed by the end of November, is being delivered by David Civil Walsh Engineering on behalf of Irish Water.
