Lord Mayor unveils redesigned community room in Crumlin

Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland officially opened a recently redesigned community room at Raleigh Court, Crumlin yesterday.

A purpose-built older person’s scheme, the development was delivered in 2020, by Tuath Housing, in partnership with Dublin City Council.

The official opening of the community room celebrates collaboration between Raleigh Court residents and final year students from Griffith College’s Interior Architecture course, who presented four different designs to the residents before works began.

Tuath Housing invited Griffith College students to meet with the residents last September to discuss designs for the new community room, which had remained unused due to Covid measures since the completion of the development in October 2020.

Overall, 42 residents live in Raleigh Square which consists of 33 new apartments in three separate apartment blocks.

The new community room will be a social and learning hub for residents and will be host to a range of activities this year including coffee mornings, chair yoga and digital skills classes supported by organisations such as Hi-Digital, ALONE, Dublin South City Partnership, The Lions Club and Dublin City Council.

Lord Mayor  Gilliland said that she was “delighted to attend the opening of this new community room that provides an important and dynamic space where residents can get active, learn and connect with others in their community.

“At the heart of this redesign was collaboration and it is heartwarming to see such innovation and creativity in our communities.”

Britt Berentzen, Programme Director Griffith College, said; “Griffith College Interior Architecture students were given a fantastic opportunity by Tuath Housing to redesign Raleigh Court community room.

“The students had a great day visiting Raleigh Court, getting to know the staff and residents, and hearing their wishes for the room.

“We are looking forward to seeing the outcome of the interior design proposals, the final redesign and transformation of the room. I hope the room will be an inviting flexible space for the residents to enjoy”.
