Cuala GAA club has announced that it has received a significant boost towards the proposed redevelopment of its Dalkey facilities following two donations of €50,000 each from Sam McCauley of McCauley Health and Beauty Pharmacy in Glasthule, and Eric Kinsella and Raouf Djeffal, co-owners of Ouzos Steak and Seafood Restaurant, Castle Street, Dalkey.

Approval for the flagship redevelopment was received, following a vote by county councillors of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) to grant full planning permission for the project earlier this week.

The project is a collaboration between Cuala GAA Club, Dalkey United AFC and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) to provide a modern, state of the art sports facility for the thousands of children and adults that play team sports with both clubs and for the use of the wider community.

The new development will be built to the highest environmental standards and result in the first sports facility in Ireland to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold accreditation and a BER rating of A2.

Commenting, Sam McCauley of McCauley Health and Beauty Pharmacy in Glasthule, said: “When we see the tremendous number of children actively engaged in sports each week, we wanted to get behind this important project for Cuala and the Dalkey community.

“We would encourage others who may be in a position to provide support to do so also.”

Raouf Djeffal, Chef-Patron, Ouzos Steak and Seafood Restaurant said:

“Ouzos is delighted to contribute to the redevelopment fund for new facilities at Cuala and we congratulate everyone involved including Dalkey United AFC and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for their commitment to providing fantastic new facilities for the people of Dalkey.

“We are proud to be part of this vibrant community and we are delighted to play our part in ensuring its success.”

Commenting following the announcement, Cathoirleach of Cuala, Damian McKeown, said:

“These donations will be a great boost prior to the formal fundraising launch, which will kick off in the autumn once planning permission is granted.

“I would like to thank Sam and Raouf and Eric Kinsella, co-owners of Ouzos for their generous support and for showing great community leadership,” he said.
