James Geoghegan officially became a Fine Gael nominee yesterday after members from each of the 12 branches within the local Dublin Bay South organisation nominated him to be their by-election candidate.

Nominations close at 12 noon Monday 10th of May, and 400 local members will select the Fine Gael candidate.

“I am thrilled to receive such broad support from right across the membership and the constituency. As the re-opening of our economy and society moves closer, our members, like every household across the country are focussing now on the future”, said Geoghegan.

The 12 branches of the local Fine Gael organisation span from the Inner-City branch, the Garret Fitzgerald Sandymount Branch to Terenure and Mount Argus.

The postal ballot will take place over 2 weeks and conclude with the count and declaration on 31st May.

“I have spent the past number of days talking with and meeting with members on zoom, on the phone and over outdoor coffees. It is clear to me that there is a real desire to make sure that a government candidate wins in Dublin Bay South, and also that we show how unified Fine Gael is as a serious party of government.

The challenges the country faces in housing, climate change and building a future post-pandemic are at the forefront of the minds of every member that I speak to. I look forward to setting out my ideas in these key areas and to taking my message to every household in Dublin Bay South”, said Geoghegan.

Following nomination, Geoghegan says he plans to contact every member and to outline his new ideas for families and communities in Dublin at the Fine Gael selection convention, which will take place online on 13th May following the close of nominations.
