The Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) has made a statement following a bomb scare at St MacDara’s Community College, Templeogue this morning.

It is understood staff and students were evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure.

The statement reads: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our entire school community is always our number one priority.

“We asked pupils to depart the school earlier today after a phone call was received by the emergency services alleging that a suspect device had been placed at the school.

“We worked with the Gardaí who attended the school and carried out a comprehensive search, including a trained sniffer dog, and they have given the all-clear and our school can now reopen tomorrow.”

The DDLETB that despite some reports, the bomb squad “did not attend the school.”

“It was not necessary for any other services to attend the school,” it said.

“We are most grateful to all students and staff for the manner in which they observed our safety procedures and we look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow as normal.

“The Gardaí are investigating this unfortunate occurrence and we have no other comment to make.”
