Happy Birthday to The Square, Tallaght which turns 30 today!

On Tuesday October 23 1990 the new shopping centre opened it’s doors for the very first time.

Then Taoiseach Charles Haughey opened the impressive new centre and an estimated crowd of 25,000 turned up to watch.

On that day it opened 30 years ago it became the biggest shopping centre in the country with over 700,000 square feet of retail space.

Following years of under investment in Tallaght, the opening of The Square coincided with a transformation in the local area.

Since then Tallaght has aquired a hospital, university, county council chambers, library, theatres and even a beautiful stadium just across the road from The Square.

The Square has been an integral part of the community for the past 30 years and to mark the occasion, they say will be giving back to customers, staff and the community alike.
