Fianna Fáil Councillor Charlie O’Connor has expressed his concerns about the rising Covid-19 cases in Tallaght.

Councillor O’Connor is a member of the Regional Health Forum and says he is deeply alarmed about the Covid 19 figures published this week for Tallaght Central and Tallaght South.

Data on the real-time incidence of the disease by local electoral area has been published on the Government’s online Covid-19 data hub.

The figures, which are the first national breakdown of incidence of the disease by local area, revealed that Tallaght Central had the second highest rate of Covid-19 in the country.

Over the first two weeks in September, the data shows that Covid-19 was rapidly spreading in Dublin, which had the highest incidence rate in the country at 189.8 cases per 100,000 population in the Mulhuddart and Blanchardstown area to the west of the city.

The Tallaght region recorded 125 confirmed cases across Tallaght and Tallaght Central electoral areas.

“I am concerned about the rising numbers of cases of COVID-19 in Dublin and in particular the Tallaght area,” Councillor O Connor said.

“I would like to remind everyone to follow the public health guidelines currently being imposed on Dublin in a bid to reduce the growing number of cases.

“This is a growing concern in Tallaght and beyond, that Tallaght University Hospital will soon be full and unable to cope.

“I am keeping in touch with local GPs who are deeply concerned at the situation.

“I am appealing to the people of Tallaght, especially those under 45, to adhere to the guidelines and everyone must play their part in this ongoing battle,” concluded Cllr O’Connor.
