Department of Health evacuated due to suspicious package

The Department of Health was evacuated this afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered.

Gardaí, ambulances and fire brigade, along with Defence Forces technicians, are currently at Miesian Plaza on Baggot Street in the city centre after the package was discovered shortly after 1pm.

The fire service said its hazmat team is present “as a precaution.”

Both sides of Baggot Street outside the building remain closed.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident on Baggot Street Lower.

“A suspicious parcel was discovered in the Department of Health.”

Last year the building was evacuated after an envelope of white powder was mailed to the department. The substance was later deemed non-hazardous.
