Local community invited to open days on former Player Wills site

RESIDENT community groups and sporting clubs in Dublin 8 are invited to attend a new round of open days on the proposed regeneration of the former Player Wills and Bailey Gibson sites on South Circular Road this week.

Hines acquired the adjoining properties at the beginning of 2019 and since then a project team has been drafting a vision for the regeneration of a consolidated development, which includes the creation of a transformative residential scheme for the area.

 The two drop-in open days will take place on Thursday, March 12, from 1pm to 8pm and on Friday, March 13 from 8am to 6pm.

Admission is via the Donore Avenue entrance to the Player Wills Factory Site, located beside St Catherine's National School.

In announcing this new round of community engagement, Gary Corrigan, Managing Director with Hines, said: “This is the second time we have asked our neighbours and the local community on site.

"Based on the development framework plan adopted in 2017, Hines have worked closely with Dublin City Council since the Open Days in July last year to jointly develop a more detailed Masterplan for the three sites.

“This resolves a lot of key issues concerning roads, traffic management, parks and overall urban design, and will enable the co-ordinated development of the Player Wills, Bailey Gibson sites along with the St Teresa’s Gardens site.

"This will be of great benefit to the local community, enabling up-front delivery of much needed local amenities such as parks, recreational areas, a new sports pitch and playgrounds, pedestrian and cycle access as well as vehicular routes across the three sites.”

He added: “Separately, we have also been working hard on the residential development proposal for the Player Wills and Bailey Gibson sites and we will be delighted to share our thinking with our neighbours and the wider local community.”

The open days will provide visitors with insight into the upcoming planning application and delivery timelines for the development.

The Hines project team will also be on site throughout both days to provide additional information and gather feedback from members of the public about the vision for the proposed regeneration of the site. 

 The vision for the regeneration of the Player Wills and Bailey Gibson sites is based on Dublin City Council's Development Plan and the SDRA 12 Framework Plan.

Both plans have established clear design guidelines, which will guide the creation of a residential-led urban quarter.
