Madigan hails new funding of €68,000 for community projects

Dublin-Rathdown TD and Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, has hailed the success of community projects in Dublin-Rathdown in securing €68,000 in the 2019 Community Enhancement Programme.

The programme is run by the Department of Rural and Community Development and provides capital grants to community groups to help them to enhance facilities in disadvantaged communities. It supports a range of activities in all areas of communities, such as childcare groups, playgrounds, recreational groups, sports grounds, landscaping and supporting the elderly.

Up to 2,000 projects will benefit from the 2019 funding round and 10 of these are in Dublin-Rathdown:

• Ballinteer Men’s Shed will receive funding for building work.

• Belarmine Community Centre is set to get funding for new flooring.

• Glencullen Community Hall has secured an allocation for new storage space.

• Hillview Community Resource Centre will receive funds for new equipment.

• Kilcross Resource Centre is set to receive funds for a new computer.

• Patrician Community Centre has secured money for new insulation.

• Rosemount Mulvey Football Club is set to receive funds for a new gym

• Rosemount Residents’ Association will receive money for new furniture.

• Sandyford Community Centre will receive funding for an upgrade to their alarm.

• Nutgrove and Loreto Men’s Shed will get funding to upgrade their facilities.

Typical enhancements under the programme include the renovation of community centres and community amenities, improvements to town parks and common areas and spaces and the purchase of equipment which is used to benefit the community. The programme has also supported energy efficient upgrades, developing community gardens, the provision of defibrillators, CCTV, and sports and IT equipment.

Minister Madigan commented: “A relatively small amount of money can go a long way and this investment will greatly benefit these local community projects. All of these groups provide an invaluable and hugely popular service to their local community.”
