Hundreds prepare for IKA fun run

A YOUNG woman who lives in Islandbridge, Dublin 8, attended the launch of the annual ‘Run for a Life’ event that is taking place in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, on May 25.

Susan Mulligan, who has been undergoing dialysis treatment for two and half years at the Beacon in Tallaght, is participating in the fun run that the IKA stages every year.
“Four of my six siblings also have the same kidney condition as me which is called Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD),” Susan explained. “Therefore, the prospect of a living kidney donor within our family is not an option for us and we are reliant on the goodwill of the public to donate a loved one's organs at a time of great sadness.
“My father Michael Mulligan underwent a kidney transplant 14 years ago and my family are very grateful to his deceased donor and to all the other donor families who have made it possible for more than 4,000 people in Ireland to be alive today having received organ transplants
“I am delighted to be here today for this photocall to play my part in supporting the Irish Kidney Association in raising awareness about the importance of organ donation". 
Colin White, Race Manager and National Projects Manager of the Irish Kidney Association, said: “This will be the 11th annual ‘Run for a Life’ event which has developed a loyal following over the years and has become a strong platform for the promotion of organ donor awareness. 
“We are looking forward to another successful event on May 25 which offers a great day out for all the family. 
“Over 500 participants from throughout Ireland took part in last year’s event and we are optimistic for another great turnout this year.” 

Ray D'Arcy, the national ambassador for organ donor awareness 2019, will also take part in ‘Run for a Life’ on Saturday, May 25 at Corkagh Park, Clondalkin. 
The fun event, which is a celebration of life, attracts over 500 participants annually.

It is open to people of all ages and levels of fitness who can choose to walk, jog or run in the chip timed event, which offers prizes for winners in a choice of 2.5km, 5km and 10km distances.
The entry fee is €20 per adult, €10 child and €45 for a family of up to two adults and up to four children.

All finishers will receive a medal and entry fee also includes soup and sandwiches.
