ST KILLIAN’S Scouts in Clondalkin have earned over €13,000 in a SEAI Better Energy Communities Scheme.

The local scouts, who have a strong tradition as a place for children to learn life skills and make great friends for life, received the contribution through donations from Musgrave MarketPlace Robinhood and the (SEAI) to improve the energy efficiency of their base in Clondalkin.

This has enabled St Killian’s to upgrade their lighting, ensuring they remain a shining beacon for the Clondalkin youth.

As a result of these much-needed building upgrades, St Killian’s will save an estimated €1,200 a year in energy costs.

This will allow them to channel more of their funds directly into working with the Clondalkin young people.

These upgrades have also resulted in a more comfortable club house for the scouts.

Speaking in relation to the energy upgrades, Joseph Mannion, St Killian’s Scouts Clondalkin, said: “We cannot assist the youth in our community on our own.

“It takes a caring and compassionate community working together to provide amenities for our children.”

He added: “Musgrave is very much part of that community. We’re very grateful for their commitment to working with Scouting Ireland Clondalkin and enabling us to improve our facilities for all of our young members.”

Martin Slattery, Head of Operations for Musgrave MarketPlace, spoke passionately about the project.

“St Killian’s Scouts Clondalkin provides essential services in the heart of our local community, with a particular emphasis on our youth,” he said.

“At Musgrave MarketPlace, communities are at our core and we strive to add value in our local communities, both with our in-store offerings but also through community projects such as this.

“We have an ongoing commitment to creating greener and more vibrant local communities, beginning in our own stores. We hope that our contribution will help St Killian’s make much needed savings to continue their fantastic work.”

Jim Gannon, Chief Executive with SEAI said: “Our communities’ programmes seek to bring business and the community together, so that they can take control of their own transition to a cleaner energy future.

The impact of this Musgrave MarketPlace project is significant with several charities, community organisations and businesses benefiting as a result of the energy upgrades.

“We are proud of our association with it, and congratulate all involved.”
