A SPECIAL emergency fund that was established to help families of the victims of the fire tragedy in Carrickmines is to close this week.

Those who would like to help those affected by the horrific tragedy that claimed 10 lives in October have until this Friday (November 13) to donate funds.

The fund was facilitated and managed by the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) with proceeds going to the Southside Travellers Action Group (STAG) who will use it to support the families involved.

Liam Casey, President SVP East region, said that while emergency support had been provided by the charity and other agencies in the immediate aftermath of the fire, they believed that the fund would allow STAG to provide longer term and appropriate support to the families affected.

The special bank account at AIB 10 Main Street, Dundrum, Co Dublin (NSC  93-31-20) will remain open to collect donations until close of business on Friday, November 13.

The account details are:  Account number 16005289.  BIC AIBKIE2D IBAN  IE 38 AIBK93312016005289
