GARDENING & Landscape Design students at Dundrum College for Further Education joined Ireland’s foremost landscape designer Diarmuid Gavin to officially launch the Kilsaran’s Student Design Competition.

Course lecturer Monica Alvaraez brought a number of her students to the launch and to register for the competition that seeks to unearth Ireland’s landscape design talent.

This is the only competition of its kind in Ireland where the overall winner will get to spend some time working with Diarmuid on a prestigious international project, have their garden professionally built and go on display to potential customers at Kilsaran’s display gardens in Dunboyne.

They will also receive a cheque for €3,000 while four runners-up will receive a smaller cash prize.

Now in its third year, the Kilsaran Student Garden Competition has gone from strength-to-strength with entries submitted by students all over Ireland.

The designs vary from traditional, contemporary to wacky with the brief asking students to design an original, practical and buildable garden using Kilsaran’s hard paving and walling products within a budget of €20,000.

The competition is open to students of horticulture, garden design, landscape architecture and other similar courses throughout Ireland.

The judging panel is led by Diarmuid Gavin and includes Director of Kilsaran Group Roy McKeown and members of Kilsaran’s garden design team.

“This competition really gives landscape design students a chance to shine by showcasing their skill and creativity,” Diarmuid said. “I’m looking for a winner who will push boundaries, not be afraid to take risks and demonstrate a clever use of materials. I also look forward to them coming on my team to work on a project with me in 2016.”

The winning garden will be announced in February 2016.

The Kilsaran Home team will work with the winning designer to bring their final plan to fruition at its award-winning display gardens and showrooms. Visit www.kilsaran.ie or for more information can call 01 8026723.
