Fitzpatrick welcomes €400,000 in funding for Northside sports clubs

Fianna Fáil Senator Mary Fitzpatrick has welcomed confirmation of almost €400,000 in funding to support the development of a new artificial playing pitch and floodlighting for Beggsboro AFC and their grounds on the Kilkiernan Road in Cabra West.

This major investment represents a transformative step for the club and the wider community, ensuring that local players of all ages and abilities will have access to high-quality, all-weather sporting facilities for many years to come. 

The new pitch and floodlights will significantly increase training and match opportunities, extend playing hours, and reduce cancellations due to poor weather.

Welcoming the announcement, Senator Fitzpatrick said, “this is a hugely positive development for Beggsboro AFC and for the wider Cabra West community.”

“This level of investment will make a real difference on the ground, giving young people and families access to modern, safe and inclusive sporting facilities right in their own area.”

She also paid tribute to the collaboration behind the successful application.

“I want to acknowledge the hard work of Beggsboro AFC, the support of Cabra Community College, and the commitment shown by the Government in approving this funding. This project shows what can be achieved when schools, community groups and public bodies work together.”

Senator Fitzpatrick has also expressed her sincere thanks to Cabra Community College for its cooperation and partnership throughout the application process, and to the Government for supporting the project and ensuring its approval.

She added, “the upgraded facilities will not only benefit Beggsboro AFC members but will also serve the wider Cabra West area by promoting physical activity, inclusion, youth development and community wellbeing.”

“The development will provide a safe, accessible space for sport and recreation, strengthening community ties and encouraging participation at all levels.

This funding marks a proud milestone for Beggsboro AFC and underlines the club’s ongoing commitment to investing in its players, volunteers and local community.
