Fianna Fáil TD Paul McAuliffe has welcomed approval by the Department of Education for two new classrooms in Sacred Heart School on St Canice’s Road, Dublin 11.
There will also be reconfiguration works in order to provide for two Special Educational Needs classes in the boys school.
The Dublin North-West TS said “this work will bring the total number of ASD classes in the Dublin 11 and Dublin 9 areas at primary level to 35, almost triple the number which were in place in 2019.”
“Schools are to be commended for increasing provision for all children in our communities and I am pleased that the Department of Education supports schools such as Sacred Heart in this effort through the School Building Programme.”
McAuliffe said “increasing provision of special needs education is a key priority of mine and I am very pleased to see additional ASD classes in my area, alongside recent approvals for a new building for Scoil Chiarain, the Special School in Dublin 11, and the planned construction of An Cosan Special School on the Swords Road.
“These measures are vital for improving the education and supports offered to children and their families and I look forward to the new Government enacting the plan to provide treatments and therapies through a schools based model so more children get the interventions that they need in a timely manner.”
