Ballymun: Super Soccer Saturday and World Record attempt

Padraig Conlon 20 Sep 2023

An attempt to break the world record for the largest freestyle football lesson is planned for Super Soccer Saturday (September 23) at the Ballymun United grounds on St Margaret’s Road.

Freestyle football is the art of juggling a football using any part of the body, excluding the elbows and hands.

At least 300 players are needed if the world record is to be  broken and ratified by the Guinness Book of Records.

“All ages boys and girls, men and women, are welcome,” says Sam Madden, the professional freestyle footballer who will supervise the lesson.

“We’re hoping we’ll get  at least 300!”

The lesson, which is part of European Week of Sport, will start at 6pm exactly and must last for at least 30 minutes, not including a warm-up or cool-down.

FIFA approved footballs will be supplied.

Before the world record attempt, players are invited to take part in a community 5-a-side football tournament at the Ballymun grounds.

Want to join in?

Just turn up – the action starts at 4pm.
