Dublin City Council has announced a €250,000 upgrade of Balcurris Park in Ballymun.

The funding has been welcomed by local Independent councillor Noeleen Reilly who said that investment has been “promised for some time now.”

“This is a big park in the centre of Ballymun which is used by residents and local sports groups, but the feeling is that it could be used more widely by people living in the area,” she said.

“There were no proper paths in the park and the playground badly needs an upgrade.

“Also, parts of the park are black spots for illegal dumping so if we get more people using the park then this will be a deterrent to those elements who want to use the park in a negative manner. “

Reilly said that the move is “really positive for Ballymun that Dublin City Council were successful in applying for this funding under Sláintecare and the €250,000 awarded will ensure that a wide range of activities and different interests can be achieved in the park.

“The works have already started, and the new paths have been laid down.

“Along with this there will be new natural play areas that support community healthy place making and wellbeing, a community reflection space, Installation of new recreational outdoor gym equipment that promotes health and fitness and delivers positive health impacts to benefit the local community.

“It is expected that all the works will be completed in quarter three this year and it will be great to see the finished project once done.”
