DCC’s recruitment drive is welcome but must be extended to other areas, says Reilly

Independent councillor for Ballymun-Finglas Noeleen Reilly has welcomed Dublin City Council’s targeted recruitment drive and has stressed that must continue to improve the services provided by the local authority.

“Recently Dublin City Council chose two areas in Dublin as a pilot scheme in trying to recruit people to work for the local authority,” she said.

“My own area of Ballymun was one as well as the North Inner City – two areas experiencing a high level of deprivation.

“From my own experience there was a huge level of interest in Ballymun, and Dublin City Council alongside the Ballymun Jobs Centre received 150 applications.

“The emphasise now needs to be on getting the interviews done as soon as possible and getting people working as all services across the city need additional workers,” Reilly said.

“Dublin City Council is like every other employer at the moment and is struggling in such a competitive jobs market.

“This targeted approach not only supports DCC but also helps men and women in areas like Ballymun and the North Inner gain secure employment with opportunities for progression.

“The success of the recruitment drive to date shows that this needs to be rolled out into other areas around the city like Finglas, Drimnagh, Whitehall to name a few.”
