Property marking event held in Blakestown Community Centre
Gary Ibbotson 04 Oct 2022A property marking event was held in Blakestown Community Centre last Friday where members of An Garda Síochána professionally marked items of value such as bicycles with a Telesis Nomad Dot Peen Property Marking Machine.
Organised by the Blakestown Drive Community Group and funded by the Blanchardstown Centre, several members of the community came out to have their property marked and secured.
At the event Mayor of Fingal councillor Howard Mahony was joined by Minister Roderic O’Gorman, students from Scoil Mhuire Senior NS, and members of the community.
This machine is exclusively supplied by Property Marking Ireland who recently received €300,000 from the Dept. of Justice in support of this Crime Prevention Property Marking Programme.
The machine works by embossing the property item with small dots in the pattern of the owners Eircode.
Property marked with people’s unique Eircode was professionally applied by Gardai and will help to return the item to its rightful owner if lost, stolen and recovered.
Maria Tormey from the BDCG said that it was great to see the machine being put to good use by An Garda Síochána as part of their community based proactive Crime Prevention Policy.
“Further events will be held in the community by The Blanchardstown Community Policing Unit and the Blanchardstown Centre are looking forward to hosting bike marking events on a regular basis,” she said.
Gardaí say that property carrying permanent identification markings are less likely to be targeted by thieves.
This unique Eircode will also assist An Garda Síochána in the return of stolen marked property to it’s rightful owner and can be used on everything from steel to plastic.
