Fingal welcomes Ireland’s first inclusive We-Go-Swing® to Millennium Park Playground

Padraig Conlon 20 Dec 2021

Fingal County Council has announced the opening of Ireland’s first inclusive wheelchair accessible swing.

Located in the playground at Millennium Park, Dublin 15, this new amenity opened on Saturday.

Following the introduction of the new Accessible Toilet Facilities and Changing Places unit earlier in 2021, Fingal County Council’s Operations Department was were keen to add to their inclusive offering with the introduction of more inclusive play facilities within the playground.

The We-Go-Swing® is a revolutionary step forward in inclusive play experience. Designed to be integrated into any playground setting, this swing lets kids of all abilities play together and experience the thrill of swinging.

With no need to transfer, the We-Go-Swing opens up a whole new world of playground fun.

Mary T Daly, Director of Operations and Water at Fingal County Council, said that inclusivity is a key priority for play facilities.

“The We-Go-Swing allows all children, with and without additional needs, to truly play together without barriers or difference affecting their experience.

“This is incredibly important in fostering a sense of acceptance and inclusivity and we are very excited to have this new amenity at Millennium Park.”

The introduction of an accessible trampoline to further support universal access and use in Fingal playgrounds will be introduced in January 2022 and work is ongoing to improve accessible and inclusive play facilities throughout the County.

The We-Go-Swing promotes social interaction for a truly inclusive experience by encouraging multiple users to work together to swing using one piece of play equipment.

It does not need to be segregated from the play space, surrounded by a fence, or locked when not in use and the swing features handlebars designed to assist with moving the swing and keeping users in place, and rotates up for easy entrance and exit.
