PLANNING permission has been lodged for a massive €5.5 million development at Castleknock Hotel and Country Club.

The planned 21,280sq ft expansion will create an additional 46 bedrooms at the hotel, bringing the total number to 190.

The project is expected to create up to 100 positions during the construction phase, with a further 20 new positions created at the hotel on completion.

This will bring the total number of full-time and seasonal employees to 220.

The planning application was lodged with Fingal County Council by Dublin architects, Cantrell and Crowley Architects, on behalf of FBD Property and Leisure Limited (FBDPLL).

The additional rooms planned as part of the €5.5 million investment will comprise 38 standard, five superior and three deluxe rooms.

Under the submitted plan, the day spa – currently located on the first floor of the hotel – will move to the ground floor, with the addition of a new aerobics suite and five new treatment rooms.

This will increase the overall size of the day spa and leisure centre from 8,825sq ft to 10,760sq ft.

David Kelly, Chief Executive of FBDPLL, said: “Our hotels have been performing ahead of projections, with Castleknock Hotel having made significant progress since the first green shoots of economic recovery emerged.

“With the Irish hotel sector now in full recovery mode and Dublin leading the way in terms of visitor numbers, we are now in a position where we can expand on our existing offering.

“We know that the demand for hotel rooms in the capital is high and growing, while the supply of new rooms has stagnated in recent years. We are delighted to be in a position whereby we can bring additional rooms to the market in a prime Dublin location to help meet growing demand for increased hotel capacity.”

FBDPLL own and manage three hotels in Ireland including Faithlegg House Hotel and Tower Hotel in Waterford as well as two resorts in southern Spain; La Cala Resort and Sunset Beach Club.

Headquartered in Ireland, FBDPLL employs over 700 people across portfolio in both Ireland and Spain.

FBDPLL is solely owned by Farmer Business Developments plc, following the acquisition of FBD Holdings plc’s 50 per cent share in October. This €48.5 million deal was completed last October.

The company is targeting €50 million operating profits across its portfolio over the next five years.
