Fingal County councillors have voted to retain the 5 percent reduction in the basic rate of Local Property Tax (LPT) for 2027.

A Sinn Féin motion to vary the rate by -15 percent – the maximum reduction allowed under legislation – was rejected, with 29 councillors voting to maintain the existing position.

Chief executive AnnMarie Farrelly had asked councillors to consider a reduction of 2.5 percent. She said each 1 percent adjustment to the rate was estimated to be worth €497,000 in additional discretionary revenue for the council.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Luke Corkery (FG) welcomed the decision to retain the 5 percent reduction introduced in 2025.

“We can continue to meaningfully invest in delivering services, without increasing what you pay,” he said. “Residents expect value for money for what they put into the system.”
