New polling station for Donaghmede

Residents of Belmayne, Parkside, Clarehall and New Priory will have an extra polling station for June’s local elections.

The new polling station came about as a result of a campaign by Fine Gael candidate Supriya Singh.

Singh, who is running for the party in Donaghamede, said the new polling station “is a testament to our shared commitment to fostering an engaged and empowered community.”

She launched the campaign before Christmas, noting that around 15,000 more families have been added to the Grange A part of the constituency over the last five years, and a new polling station was necessary.

Singh said that the new polling station being added “recognises” the evolving needs of the community.

“As a candidate residing in the local electoral area, I am deeply committed to the challenges and priorities of our community.”

“With the massive growth in population in Grange A in the last five years, which is around 15,000 families, the need for a more inclusive and accessible voting process became evident.”

She hopes that the new polling station would help address the issue, and provide a platform for the diverse voices that exist within the constituency.

Michelle McGoldrick, chairperson of Belmayne Community Group said “the addition of a new polling station in the area will definitely benefit the community and encourage more people to come out and vote, it makes it much more accessible to those who may not drive.”

Singh said the new polling station is a “significant” step towards a more engaged and empowered electorate.

“Beyond the polling station, it underscores the shared commitment to enhancing democratic participation and visibility, particularly for new members of the community. As a community advocate, I am committed to making this neighbourhood a great place to raise families.”

With local and European elections taking place in June, Singh reminded voters that registering to vote and voting is the best way to have a say in how the neighbourhood, and the city, are managed.

“This new polling station makes it easier to participate in the democratic process, and I urge every eligible resident to exercise their right to vote, you can register to vote or update your address at checktheregister.ie or voter.ie.”
