Commenting on the publication on Tuesday by Northside Partnership of the new report ‘Forgotten Communities – Clongriffin and Belmayne’, local Sinn Fein Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha said the report shows the ‘need for urgent action for these communities.’

“‘Forgotten Communities’ is the very appropriate title of this new report on Clongriffin and Belmayne,” he said

“Just the evening before the launch I attended a meeting of the Clongriffin-Belmayne Forum, convened by Dublin City Council North Central Area Office.

Once again, as we have over many years, we heard the ongoing saga of roads, paths and public spaces still not taken in charge by the Council, empty retail units and lack of community facilities while the area continues to grow.

“All this and more is reflected in ’Forgotten Communities’.

“The population has grown by 68%, just under 8,000 people since the 2016 census.

“There are 5,000 people under 24 in the area.

“The biggest need identified in this report is for community facilities, especially for young people.

“Already children have grown into their teens in the largest unfinished housing estate in Ireland, which is now a building site again, yet promised facilities such as a community centre, a library and other amenities have not been delivered.

“As a result, problems of anti-social behaviour and crime have grown.

“There are great people in the communities or Belmayne and Clongriffin who will ensure that their voices are no longer forgotten but are heard loud and clear!”
