The annual AIB Community €1 Million Fund, which launched earlier this year, will see over 70 charities receive funding as part of the initiative with The Down Syndrome Centre receiving the most nominations in the Greater Dublin Region.

Having been nominated by AIB customers and the public, The Down Syndrome Centre will receive €28,000 from the fund in 2022.

The funding will support work in early intervention services for children with Down Syndrome.

Earlier this year, AIB launched the first €1 Million Community Fund and asked its customers and the wider public to nominate registered charities that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities.

The charities which received the most nominations in each of the five regions (Connaught, Munster, Ulster (RoI), Leinster and Greater Dublin) received funding.

On being nominated, Fiona Challoner Malone from The Down Syndrome Centre said:

“We do not receive any government funding and therefore depend on this type of funding to continue to provide vital early intervention therapy to 100’s of children with Down syndrome in our centres in Sandyford and Swords.

“It means so much more that it is our local community and supporters that nominated The Down Syndrome Centre.

“The work we do is being recognised.

“We are very grateful to the public, our supporters and to AIB for selecting the centre as the top charity in the Dublin Region”.
