‘Green light for Swords Primary Care Centre’ says Senator

A Fingal Senator says she welcomes confirmation by the HSE that a primary care centre is on track to be delivered for Swords.

Speaking after receiving the news that the care center has got the green light, Fine Gael Senator Regina Doherty said:

“I am thrilled that, following my call earlier this month for a clear timeline for the delivery of this crucial public healthcare facility, the HSE has informed me that a primary care centre will be operational in Swords by 2025.

“This facility was first announced over ten years ago and in the last update we received from the HSE, we were told that a timeline and a provider for its delivery would be confirmed in Spring 2021.

“I am happy to confirm that a provider has been identified through the HSE’s Operational Lease mechanism, and that the HSE has given us an estimated date of delivery for the primary care centre.”

In a letter sent in response to Senator Doherty’s enquiries, the HSE stated that they had “received final submissions from the interested parties that met all qualifying criteria in Quarter 1 2021”, and that they are now engaging with the selected developer.

Senator Doherty continued:

“The delivery of a primary care centre for Swords now appears to be – at long last – a priority for the HSE.

“As I said recently, this community has been let down time and time again when it comes to the provision of the delivery of services, and a public health facility has been on the cards for a very long time.

“Swords has been pushed to the back of the queue too many times; I believe that a town of such a size and with so many needs deserves to be at the very front.

“I am glad that there is now a commitment to deliver this service for this rapidly-growing town, which has a population of almost 50,000.

“A primary care centre will cater for the huge diversity of needs that exist here in Swords.”

“I am delighted that the people of Swords, and indeed of North County Dublin, have finally been provided with some clarity.

“While 2025 sets a clear timeline for the delivery of what I expect will be a brand-new, purpose built facility, I will continue to push for it to be up-and-running as soon as possible,” concluded Senator Doherty.
