Families of Stardust victims hold protest outside Dail

Families of the Stardust victims are currently holding a protest outside the Dail over delays in securing legal aid funding for the inquests.

The hearings are due to take place in the RDS but no date has been fixed because of this delay.

The families of the 48 victims say they are ‘extremely upset’ at the length of time it is taking to setup the funding for the families.

Last year, the attorney general granted a fresh inquest into the 48 deaths that occurred during the fire on Valentines Day 1981.

In statement released ahead of the protest, survivor Antionette Keegan, who lost her sisters her two sisters Mary and Martina in the fire, said:

“Families of the deceased 48 victims have been pushed to the extreme.

“We have NO choice so we will be doing a protest outside Leinster House Monday 26th April at 10am for JFT48.
“We are asking families, friends and supporters join us.”
